Post-Consumer Waste"If not for trees, human life could not exist." -Midrash Sifre (Deuteronomy) 20:19
Save energy, water, space, and forests by buying paper that is made with post consumer waste (pcw).
Post consumer waste content paper contains paper products
that people have actually recycled. When we read 100% recycled paper, what that really means is that scraps, pulp, etc. that has fallen to the factory floor during paper manufacturing, has been swept up and made into new paper. So the paper is still made from virgin pulp, i.e., fresh trees.
When we purchase pcw paper, we are buying paper that has been used and then turned into new paper. There are all sorts of styles, colors, and percentage pcw papers
that you can purchase. While yes, the paper costs more, with some price shopping you can get a fair deal and the
benefits to the environment are beyond costs.
Here are some statistics: recycling one tone of office paper save seventeen treesl; it takes 60% less energy to manufacture from recycled stock than from virgin materials; every ton of recycled paper saves 4,200 kilowatts of energy, enough to meet the energy needs of at least 4,000 people; making paper from recycled paper staock uses 15 less water than making paper from scratch; recycling one ton of paper saves 7,000 gallons of water, enough to supply the daily water needs of almost thirty households; every ton of paper not landfilled saves three cubic yards of landfill space.
