Pre-Pesach: BelieveShalom and welcome to another special pre-Pesach Tikkun Tips.
"We travel together, passengers on a little spaceship, dependent on its vulnerable reserves of air and soil; all committed for our safety to its security and peace; preserved from annihilation only by the care, the work and the love we give our fragile craft." -Adlai Stevenson
Pre-Pesach Tikkun Tip: BELIEVE THAT THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE TO HELP FIX THISWORLD ARE EFFECTIVE!
The Pesach season is especially marked by its focus on freedom. We often tend to think of freedom in physical terms, i.e., freedom from the bondage of slavery. However, freedom also pertains to the spiritual realm. To believe that our actions are actually effective in helping to fix this world, is a way to attain freedom from the lapse of heart that can too often finds its way inside of ourselves.
Let's face it, everyday we hear more and more terrible news from war zones, to crimes in our cities, to environmental disasters. Humanity's consumption of natural resources is almost beyond imagination! In the face of all this how can we still go on?
Well, one of the many teachings that the Jewish tradition has to offer us is the following: "And God saw all that God had made and behold it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day." –Genesis 1:31
Though we are experiencing such troubling times, the very essence of the creation remains VERY GOOD! We are meant to struggle with the difficult issues that are before us today (and have been before the many generations that have preceded us). It is our duty, our privilege, to do so, to struggle in life! This is especially made clear to us when it comes to environmental issues. The environment does not discriminate, we are all
united by our dependence on this world.
Continue striving for the freedom that comes with the knowledge that caring and giving to our world, to one another, to ourselves, is what it means to be VERY GOOD!
Pesach Sameach to all of you and may you find the freedom that you seek at this special time!
